What is pile?

-A slender timber, concrete, or steel structural element, driven, jetted, or otherwise embedded on end in the ground for the purpose of supporting a load.

Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) is the amount of dissolved oxygen needed by aerobic biological organisms in a body of water to break down organic material present in a given water sample at certain temperature over a specific time period.

NEGATIVE SKIN FRICTION ON PILES

Friction Drag, also known as Skin Friction Drag, is drag caused by the friction of a fluid against the surface of an object that is moving through it. It is directly proportional to the area of the surface in contact with the fluid and increases with the square of the velocity.
When a fill or load is placed on compressible soil deposit, consolidation of the compressible material takes place.

STANDARD PENETRATION TEST

The standard penetration test is the most commonly used in-situ test, especially for cohesionless soils which can not be easily sampled. The test is extremely useful for determining the relative density and the angle of shearing resistance of cohesionless soils. It can also be used to determine the unconfined compressive strength of cohesive soils.
